I have always been fascinated by media center PCs. Now I’m not talking a heavy windows PC running Windows Media Center Edition. I want a lightweight simple system that can access my media from a large hardrive or a Network Attached Storage server. Ideally I want a DVR built in as well as a simple interface to access my mp3’s and DVD files. The media center must also interface with existing hardware, such as a DVD player. I was going to turn my old Xbox into a media center, but I just don’t want to mess around with all the Xbox limitations and hardware DRM. I am going to build a small Micro-Atx pc and run Linux Media Center on it. If anyone has done this or has any recommendations, let me know in the comments. I will keep you posted on the project, but for now here’s a nice videos showing off someone’s Linux Media Center.
